New Openpilot Video Clipping Tool Makes Sharing Drives a Breeze

The Openpilot community just got a powerful new tool to make sharing driving footage easier than ever. Openpilot contributor Trey has launched a new Discord-based video clipping bot, making it simple for users to create short clips (up to 60 seconds) from their connect.comma.ai drives — right from within Discord.

This new tool builds on the original op-replay-clipper created by nelsonjchen, which similarly allows users to generate clips using their route logs and dashcam footage. While incredibly useful, that version is hosted on Replicate and comes with a small cost per use — since it relies on cloud GPU time for processing.

Trey’s version removes that barrier entirely. The new bot is completely free and lives right inside Discord, no technical setup required.

How It Works

To start using it, just install the Discord bot here. Then, type the /clip command and follow the prompts. Here’s what a sample command looks like:

/clip route:<connect_route_url_or_id>/<segment>/<start>/<end>

For example:

/clip route:https://connect.comma.ai/d3cff3c1d3af097b/00000018–09c6316cd7/405/415

Or the short form:

/clip route:d3cff3c1d3af097b/00000018–09c6316cd7/405/415

This will generate a clean, shareable video clip from your connected Comma route, between the specified start and end seconds. The clip appears right in your Discord thread, ready to download, review, or post.

Why It Matters

Being able to quickly share footage from your drives is huge for debugging, showing off interesting scenarios, or contributing to development discussions. What once required navigating third-party sites and paying a small processing fee can now be done in seconds — for free — and with no friction.

This tool is already being used by Openpilot enthusiasts and developers to highlight disengagements, showcase edge cases, and post clips of smooth autonomous performance. If you’ve seen a drive video in Discord lately, chances are it came from this new tool.

Huge thanks to Trey for building this Discord bot and to nelsonjchen for laying the foundation with the original clipper. Tools like this make the Commaverse better for everyone.
